The S3DP rugged computers offers an extremely powerful, fully solid state, processing solution with a significant range of "out of the box" inputs and outputs.

The S3DP supports all mainstream operating systems such as Windows XP, and including several RTOS. As well as offering extensive functionality and interface capability in the baseline option, the S3DP can be further enhanced with the addition of expansion modules and industry standard PMC cards.
Extreme Environmental Performance
The S3DP rugged computers offer a fully qualified solution to general purpose computing requirements. S3DP is a fully solid state solution and its qualified environmental performance permits its use in extreme land, naval and aerospace applications. It has a wide operating temperature performance (-40°C to +80°C), as well as extreme resistance to shock, vibration and acceleration. Packaged in a rugged aluminium enclosure, with full IP65 water and dust ingress protection, S3DP employs Mil Spec connectors, with feed-through and isolation filtering to achieve high levels of EMC immunity and reduced emission performance.
Most importantly, S3DP products can be provided with qualification test reports, providing test results and evidence that will support its use on a number of platforms. Where further qualification results are necessary, SES can work with a customer to carry out the tests and/or analysis required to release the equipment for direct use on a particular platform.
Processor Options
SES offer a family of Solid State Data Processors that are fully qualified for use in aerospace applications and with the addition of a customer-supplied software application can relatively simply provide a flight-qualified computing solution that is straightforward to release into service.
SES provide qualification evidence and a Design Declaration of Performance statement that is generally accepted by aircraft certification bodies to underwrite the physical, environmental and electromagnetic performance of the equipment, such that the equipment can be safely fitted to the airframe.
Where additional or aircraft-specific qualification evidence is required, SES can carry out further in-house testing or use external test houses to provide the required test evidence.
SES will continue to develop the product family to ensure that the S3DP range always offers the fastest, smallest, highest capacity data processing solutions in their respective market place.
S3DP is suitable for airborne use and starts with a general purpose 800MHz "PC" processing engine with 256MB of RAM, serial ports, High Speed Disk interfaces, USB 2.0, Ethernet, Audio and Video. This basic functionality provides an ideal approach to the migration of applications developed on a desktop into the cockpit of an aircraft.
However the usefulness of S3DP becomes even more evident when considering the "extras" that are available as standard:-

S3DP End Users
The incredible flexibility of S3DP as a rugged computing solution has meant they have wide applicability in aircraft. Typically a customer buys from SES the qualified hardware, operating system and drivers that he requires and implements a solution combining SES hardware with his own dedicated software.
The variety of software options supported by the S3DP ensure that the product is equally at home with a simple Windows Software application through to a multi-tasking or even safety related real-time system.
Typical applications addressed by customers to date include:-
- Data Loading - S3DP computers have been used for data loading over Ethernet and Arinc-429 with Data Input through removable ATA flash and USB drives.
- Data Recording - Where sensitive data recording is required, customers have purchased S3DP products to write their own data recording applications, while benefiting from the proven data recording hardware that is at the heart of S3DP.
- Flight Computers - With significant processing, floating point computation and memory manipulation capability, S3DP can be employed in any general purpose computing requirement.
- LRU - Specialist equipments such as datalink processors or protocol converters can use the S3DP as a flight qualified Line Replaceable Unit (LRU).
- Display Controllers - Through its ability to interact with a variety of display types the S3DP computers have been selected to control the display of information provided to a pilot or crew during a mission. Provision of Open-GL libraries has ensured that applications developed using user interfacing prototyping tools such as VAPSTM can be ported across to a flight qualified platform.
